OX 316a: High-density OPE wax
A high-density oxidized polyethylene (OPE) wax with a high melting point. Works as external lubricant and metal release agent, and helps control fusion.
TDS and MSDS are sent on request.
External lubricant and metal release for rigid PVC.
The carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in OX 316a make it more compatible with PVC, fillers and pigments than standard PE wax. Material sticks less to the screw, barrel and die, and the product gets a cleaner surface finish.
As an external lubricant, too much can cut output or cause plate-out and blooming. That is why we always set the optimum level together with your full lubricant package and machine conditions.
Key features
- High melting point and hardness: supports fusion, melt flow and thermal stability
- Excellent metal release on screw, barrel and die
- Good surface finish and gloss
- Better compatibility and dispersion with fillers and pigments than standard PE wax
Typical applications
- Rigid PVC pipe, profile, fittings and siding (extrusion and injection)
- Printable rigid PVC film and sheet; cable jackets
- Pigment and filler masterbatch
Frequently asked questions
What dosage of OX 316a should I use?
As a starting point, 0.05–0.2 phr for pipe, profiles and fittings, and 0.1–0.3 phr for printable film or sheet and cable jackets. The optimum level is set with the rest of the lubricant package through trials.
How is OPE wax different from standard PE wax?
OPE wax carries polar groups (carboxyl and hydroxyl) from oxidation, which makes it more compatible with PVC, fillers and pigments. The result is better metal release and dispersion than standard PE wax.
